What is anaemia Anaemia is a pathological condition characterised by a reduction in haemoglobin (the oxygen-binding protein contained in the red cells), which may have various causes. The most frequent forms are linked to haemorrhages, deficits of iron or group B vitamins (folic acid and vitamin B12) and some genetic traits. Patients affected with anaemia may have a pale skin colour, a tendency to tire easily, difficulty concentrating, headaches etc.
